The Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe was formally established in 1993 by the European Consortium for VLBI. The JIVE institute is located in Dwingeloo, NL, and hosted by ASTRON, the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy in Dwingeloo.
JIVE is a member of the EVN Consortium and is a legal entity under Dutch law - able to enter into contracts with funding agencies. JIVE has a Board of directors nominated by the the European Research Councils (NWO, PPARC, IGN, CNR) and National Facilities (OSO, MPIfR) that support JIVE financially. The Director of JIVE is Dr. Huib van Langevelde. He is responsible to the JIVE Board for the management of the institute.
The primary function of JIVE is to operate and further develop the EVN MkIV VLBI Data Processor.
