Press Release: Real-time eVLBI Image

A press release is available regarding the recent production of the first EVN real-time eVLBI image. The experiment saw data from three telescopes of the EVN (Westerbork - The Netherlands, Jodrell Bank - UK, Onsala - Sweden) transferred to JIVE across fibre-optic links to JIVE and fed into the MkIV Data Processor. The breakthrough in this case was that at no time was data stored on disk - the data flowed without interruption from telescope to correlator where fringes were produced.

More details on this exciting development in the move towards real-time VLBI can be found in the press release. This is available both in Dutch and English and in two different formats, Word and PDF. Below you will find images of the telescopes that took part in the experiment, a plot of the data (fringe amplitude as a function of time) as well as the map that was produced from the data.
